Everbest Printing Co. - "Green" Printing Leader in Asia
Everbest Printing Company has established themselves as a leader among printers committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment. One of the largest concerns many express relates to the large use of paper and number of trees which must be harvested to provide the pulp. Everbest works hard to minimize paper waste during book manufacturing, and recycles all waste paper. We've invested in modern and expensive equipment to collect paper waste throughout our plant. Through a series of vacuum pipes, paper waste is moved to a central bailer where it is bundled and returned to the paper mills for recycling.
Using recycled paper to reduce the number trees needed to be cut for pulp is an excellent idea for many kinds of paper products, but we believe that a better, more environmentally friendly solution exists for supplying the premium coated printing paper used in high quality illustrated book publishing. Remember that trees aren't the planet's only scarce resource. Recycled paper's higher costs reflects the use of harsh de-inking & bleaching chemicals, as well as the energy needed to collect, transport, and process the used paper. Because trees are a renewable resource, we support the use of papers made from sustainable forests -- "tree farms" if you will.
Everbest is among a small minority of printers which have received the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. The FSC was created to encourage the practice of sustainable forestry worldwide and to eliminate logging of old growth forests. FSC sets forth principles, criteria, and standards that span economic, social, and environmental concerns. The FSC standards represent the world’s strongest system for guiding forest management toward sustainable outcomes.
By specifying FSC certified papers, and working with an FSC certified printer such as Everbest, you can be sure you are doing your part to create a safe and healthy environment for generations to come. Publishers are also entitled to display the FSC logo on the books you print, with the growing public awareness that this promotes a healthier environment than books printed on recycled paper.
Everbest prints virtually all jobs computer-to-plate -- no longer do we utilize large sheets of film to create plates. Developing printing film required a lot of chemicals, and we are glad to report that this entire process has been eliminated. Almost all of the work done to prepare a book for printing, including the proofs, is done on computers and is digital . . . so no chemicals are needed. All waste water leaving the Everbest plant is clean.
Ink is another key component of printing. Not long ago, all inks were petroleum based. Today, vegetable oil based inks are available, though the amount of vegetable oil varies from different suppliers. Where we once bought printing ink in small cans, today ink arrives at Everbest in large drums. These ink drums are simply returned and refilled when empty. No longer are we sending the small ink cans to landfill sites.
Printing plates are made of aluminum. After these plates have been used, we sell them to a recycling company that melts them into raw aluminum, so that they can be used again and again. This saves an enormous of amount of energy and cost.
We use a considerable amount of glue in the book binding process. Glue holds the book to the cover, and also holds all the pages in place. We use non-hazardous glue to make books.
Every book manufacturer experiences paper waste when making books. Some of the waste occurs at the press make-ready stage as we adjust the printing press to make the colors look just right. Also, during binding when we trim the edges of a book on all three sides, the paper trim is waste. At Everbest, paper waste is not burned or hauled to landfill sites. Instead it is returned to the paper mills and made into useful recycled paper products which are economically viable, such as newsprint, paper bags, and corrugated cartons.
At Everbest, we have a commitment to the environment and to the future. We are working together with our suppliers and customers to keep our planet a place can live in harmony with the environment for generations to come.

"American Art Parades" recently grabbed a prestigious third-place ranking with Independent Publishers in Portland in November. Bringing home even more hardware, the same book won first place in the Arizona Book Awards' Glyph competition, in the category of best first book by a new publisher.
